About the event
Nourishing Peace focuses on the intersection of food security and peace around the world. A scarcity of sufficient and nutritious food breeds unrest, and conflict is a threat to food supply chains with effects rippling out far beyond just that region or country. Such threats hinder the world from meeting sustainable development goal #2, Zero Hunger.
This event features speakers including a UN Day Message from Rachel Bowen Pittman, UNA-USA Executive Director, a World Food Program representative on the UN and food insecurity, Chastity Mays, Assistant Director of A Gift of Love Charity and Supporter of Carbondale Spring Food Autonomy, and Monica Spiegel, Graduate Assistant with Saluki Food Pantry. Bring a food donation for Saluki Food Pantry.
This event is brought to you by the Southern Illinois Branch UNA-USA, the Carbondale Branch AAUW, and the SIU Model United Nations. This event is taking place in person at the Carbondale Public Library and on Zoom.
